Who We Are

The Office of the Taxpayer Advocate (OTA) is a unit within the District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue dedicated to ensuring that all taxpayers are treated in a fair and equitable manner and in accordance with the District’s Taxpayer Bill of Rights.

What We Do

The Office of the Taxpayer Advocate (OTA) works with the public to offer individual assistance, provide outreach and education to the public, stakeholders and OTR, and engage in systemic advocacy.

How to Request Assistance

If you have an individual tax problem that is causing you undue economic hardship, or if you have been unsuccessful in resolving a tax matter using the OTR’s normal channels, we may be able to assist you. Click the link below to complete a taxpayer advocacy request form.
